HEATH, Ky. — Carolyn Allen Owsley lost her long-fought battle with cancer on Saturday at her residence in Heath, Kentucky, surrounded by family and friends.

Carolyn was born July 3, 1934, to James E. Allen and Gertrude Childress Allen of Heath.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Lafayette Owsley of Heath; two sons, Kendall Allen Owsley and wife Karen of Neunan, Ga., Howard Keith Owsley and wife Melody of Racine, Wis.; a foster daughter, Becky Heflin Hanrahan and husband George of Paducah; grandchildren, Courtney Ellen Owsley and Zachary Joseph Owsley of Racine, Wis., Rob Hanrahan and wife Melanie of Corbin and Rose Beth Hanrahan of Gulf Shores, Ala.

Additionally she is survived by brother James E. Allen and wife Bobbie of Paducah; two sisters, Betty Allen Skidmore of Paducah and Barbara McCune and husband James of Evansville, Ind. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as five great-grandchildren.

Carolyn led a life of serving others as an educator. She retired after 30 years at Heath High School, only to return to the classroom teaching for 10 years as well as 10 years in administration with the Palm Beach County Florida School System where she retired in January of 2007 before returning home to the Heath community. Also during her career as an educator she was active with young people at the local, state and national levels of FHA/HERO in both Kentucky and Florida.

She enjoyed shopping, working with young people, meeting the needs of others, sharing her faith in God and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Carolyn was a member of First Baptist Church of Wellington, Fla., as well as a longtime member of Spring Bayou Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to either First Baptist Church of Wellington or Spring Bayou Baptist Church, Kevil, Ky.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Baptist Home Health Care and especially to Cindy Hasty for all of her ongoing care, heartfelt kindness and loving support of their mom, dad and family.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Spring Bayou Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Tipton and Terry Townsend officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 17, 2008, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah and after 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the church.
