Michael H. McBee, M.D.
On Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 4:25 pm, Michael H. McBee, 66, of Benton, KY, passed away at Baptist Health Paducah, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife of forty four years, Karen Raisle McBee, son Michael Todd McBee, daughter-in-love, Eppie McBee and a beautiful granddaughter, Ella McBee. Other family members include his twin brother, Jim and wife, Gloria McBee.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Maxie McBee and Betty Herbert McBee.
He was born in Louisville, KY on April 17, 1947 to Carl and Betty McBee. He attended high school there and chose Western KY University for his undergraduate training; graduating cum laude with a double major in chemistry and biology.
After graduation from WKU he attended the University of Kentucky Medical School in Lexington, KY from 1969 to 1973. June of 1973 brought a move to Houston, TX where Dr. McBee completed his internship and residency at Hermann Hospital at the University of Texas Health Science Center, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and cardiovascular training under the guidance of Dr. Denton Cooley.
Upon completion of training in Houston, Mike, Karen and two and one half year old son, Todd, moved to Mayfield, KY to begin what would become a twenty nine year surgical practice. The choice of coming to Mayfield was not random; much thought and prayer went into his decision to practice in Western Kentucky. It was a decision never to be regretted! God rewarded Mike’s choice with a fulfilling practice, and friends were made that would become as family.
Surgery was Dr. McBee’s profession; but the time spent with family was important. With his son Todd, they built and flew remote controlled airplanes and helicopters. Sailing together as a team earned them many trophies, while creating a treasure of sweet memories. Hunting and fly fishing were also great pastimes.
In 2007, health issues forced an early retirement from his life’s work.
Visitation with the family is scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Immanuel Baptist Church, 3465 Buckner Lane, Paducah, KY, where Mike and Karen are members. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 11:00 am at Immanuel Baptist Church.
